We are the founders of the EuPAPNet European Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosos Network in Europe.

St. Antonius ILD center of Excellence is recognized by the Dutch ministry of Health as a national center for care, education and research on interstitial lung disease. The center is highly experience in diagnosis and treatment of Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP). Specialized pulmonologists lead a team of care professionals performing state of the art whole lung lavages. The center hosts the national biobank for PAP and a fully operational R&D unit for drug trials, basic and translational research.

Founders

Prof. Jan Grutters

Prof. Jan C. Grutters MD, PhD, is a pulmonary physician at the St. Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein and University Medical Center Utrecht, and professor of Interstitial Lung Diseases. He is head of Pulmonology Department at St. Antonius Hospital, and participating member of the Lung Transplant Team Utrecht/Nieuwegein. In 2001 he was awarded an ERS Research Fellowship at the Imperial College and Brompton Hospital London, resulting in the Thesis: ‘Genetic polymorphisms and phenotypes in sarcoidosis’. Jan Grutters is a member of the Editorial Board of WASOG, of the medical advisory board of the Dutch Sarcoidosis Society, as well as the Dutch Pulmonary Fibrosis Society, and Worldwide LAM Patient Coalition. He supervises research into sarcoidosis and pulmonary fibrosis, with special focus on biomarkers and the genetic predisposition of ILD.

Dr. Coline van Moorsel

Dr. Coline van Moorsel is Head Research Interstitial Lung Disease  (ILD) at St Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein and University Utrecht in The Netherlands. She received her MSc degree in Biology cum laude from Leiden University. She received her PhD degree in molecular genetics from Leiden University and joint the Central Laboratory of Blood Transfusion services in Amsterdam to develop human mutation detection arrays. As a senior scientist she joined St Antonius Hospital and Utrecht University Medical Center to investigate biological factors that influence disease development and susceptibility to Interstitial Lung Diseases. She is currently head of the ILD-Research group where she conducts and supervises research on genetic factors and biomarkers in ILD and lung tranplantation.

Dr. Marcel Veltkamp studied medical biology and medicine at Utrecht University, after which he started his training as a pulmonologist at St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein. During this training, he performed research, receiving a PhD in 2011 on a thesis entitled ‘Sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors in Sarcoidosis’. He completed his specialist training by working for 6 months as a Fellow of Interstitial Lung Diseases at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven (Belgium). Since 2013 he has been working as a pulmonologist at the ILD Centre of Excellence of the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands and is responsible for the whole lung lavage program. His research focus is on triggers of disease in ILD.
